Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama says the eight Siavonga based fishermen recently arrested for illegally fishing in Zimbabwean waters have been convicted and sentenced to 2-years imprisonment.
Mr. Kanyama has since appealed to the Zimbabwean government to show mercy on the Zambian fishermen by fining them instead.
He says this is taking into consideration the good relations Zambia and Zimbabwe enjoy.
Zimbabwean Police also seized the two commercial fishing rigs the Zambian fishermen were using.
