Summoning of VJ unfortunate – SACCORD

The Southern African Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has called on authorities to stop suppressing individuals who are merely exercising their freedoms of expression.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says the summoning of Veteran Politician Vernon Mwaanga by the Police is unfortunate considering that he was merely exercising his freedom of expression.

Mr. Cheembe states that the concerns raised by Dr. Mwaanga about preserving and protecting the freedoms of the people are genuine.
He says the act of intimidating and harassing those with opposing views should come to an end.

Mr. Cheembe has since called on relevant authorities to ensure fundamental human rights are respected.

And former MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe says the summoning of Dr. Mwaanga to appear before police officers is an infringement of his rights.
