Govt specialized youth re-settlement schemes underway

Government has disclosed that it is developing specialized youth re-settlement schemes that will provide free land and start-up kits to youths to enable them venture into agriculture and related activities for their improved and sustainable livelihoods.

Youth, Sport and Child Development Minister Vincent Mwale says the project is being piloted at the Mwange model youth development centre in Mporokoso District of Northern Province.

Mr. Mwale says so far, 10 thousand hectares of land has been secured in Mufumbwe District in North western Province.

In a speech read on his behalf by his ministry’s acting Permanent Secretary Alfonso Banda during the Lusaka Youth Resource Centre graduation ceremony for youths from various Police camps today, Mr. Mwale urged the graduating youths to be innovative and put the skills they have learnt to good use for the benefit of the nation.

And Speaking at the same event, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eugene Sibote cautioned the youths to desist from engaging in acts that would lead to violence during elections.

Mr. Sibote has also called on politicians to assist the youths realize their full potentials instead of using them as tools for violence.

And Speaking earlier the Nkwazi Women’s Club Matron Rosemary Kanganja says the club is alive to the fact that if young people are not engaged in meaningful programmes they will end up engaging in bad vices such as gender based violence, early marriages, teenage pregnancies that may result in them contracting HIV.

Mrs. Kanganja says the 86 graduating students who have been trained in Information Communication Technology were drawn from all police camps within Lusaka Province.
