SESTUZ welcomes fixed fees for govt boarding and day schools

Secondary School Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) has welcomed government’s directive for all government boarding and day schools to have fixed school fees.

Speaking to ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka, SESTUZ General Secretary Emmanuel Zulu says it is a welcome move by government to reduce school fees.

Mr. Zulu says schools have been directed to come up with sums that suit the school according to their locality but must be within the government stated recommendations.

He stated that the difference in pricing of school fees is because some cost of food may be different because of different areas where schools are located.

He says the schools should discuss with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) over the school fees they can afford and submit it to the Ministry of General Education.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zulu further called on government to release grants on time saying the grants should be reasonable for the schools to run adequately.
