CSAWUZ spots out discriminatory clause in amended Constitution

Civil Servants Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) General Secretary Joy Beene has described as discriminatory the constitutional provision that requires Civil Servants to resign three years before contesting for an elective political position.

Mr. Beene says the clause is a slap in the face of the Civil Servants in the country.

He notes that the Clause will also deprive civil servants the chance to aspire for political office.

Mr. Beene suggests that the period be reduced to three months or six months so that Zambians are not deprived of quality leadership.

Meanwhile Mr. Beene says his union support the minimum qualification of Grade Twelve school certificate for people aspiring for political office.

Mr. Beene says this requirement will help improve the quality of leadership in the country.
