The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has urged Zambians to begin taking secondary school education seriously now that a Grade 12 Certificate is a requirement for one to stand as councilor and Member of Parliament.

PROTUZ Secretary General Albert Muyembe however notes that government should also ensure that schools are affordable and accessible by everyone so that as many as possible can reach the secondary school level and acquire full grade 12 certificates.

He notes that the requirement of a grade 12 certificate for those aspiring to be councilors, MPs and will motivate many to attain secondary school education.

Mr. Muyembe says this will in turn contribute to having an educated Zambia citing that leaders with an education background will be able make informed decisions and contribute to running the nation effectively.

He has further encouraged even those that have passed the secondary school age to utilize the general education certificate (GCE) and obtain their grade 12 certificates so that in future they can aspire to be political leaders at various levels.
