President Edgar Lungu with the visiting Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Africa Affairs Zhong Jianhua

President Edgar Lungu says Zambia is preparing its package to benefit from China’s $60 billion new round of funding support for Africa’s development.

The Head of State said this at State House this afternoon when a visiting Chinese delegation led by Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Africa Affairs Zhong Jianhua paid a courtesy call on him.

President Lungu is optimistic that accessing the fund will help in poverty alleviation and job creation for Zambians.

And Speaking to journalists shortly after a closed door meeting, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says a number of issues were discussed in the meeting which includes the country’s economic development.

Mr. Chanda says the Chinese envoy has pledged China’s support to Zambia’s efforts in bringing peace and stability in the Africa region.

He says the envoy has also emphasized the need for political stability in countries such as Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, which he says is key to economic development.

Mr. Chanda says President Lungu during the same meeting stated that Zambia as a member of the Great Lakes Region is concerned with the unfolding events in Burundi.

He says the Head of State is happy that the vote on the third term in Rwanda has gone on well which will allow the current President Paul Kagame to seek a third term in office.
