ZCTU commends President Lungu

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has commended President Edgar Lungu for directing ZESCO to reverse the recently hiked electricity prices to old ones following a public outcry against the new prices.

ZCTU Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka in a statement issued to QFM News says the decision by the President is clear demonstration that he is ready to listen to people’s complaints.

He says the high cost of electricity, following the recent increase by ZESCO had also pushed up the cost of production and that this cost burden would have been passed on to consumers.

Mr. Mukuka says the ZCTU is happy that reversion to the old electricity tariffs will bring relief to the large majority.

He notes that the hike in electricity tariffs had added to the plight of workers and their families as many had complained that the cost of electricity would make life unaffordable.

Mr. Mukuka has since urged ZESCO to immediately effect the old tariff regime as directed by the President.
