UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has charged that decision by government to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariffs is another cosmetic arrangement meant to merely calm and dupe voters ahead of the elections in August.

Mr. Hichilema in a statement says in the event the PF won the forthcoming elections, which he says is unlikely, they will again hike the electricity tariffs as they did towards the January 2015 elections when they reduced fuel prices only to triple the prices soon after being declared winners.

He points out that they have done the same with maize subsidies, fuel, motor vehicle licensing and other key economic measures.

Mr. Hichilema says the UPND has at all times consistently warned about the negative effects of the PF’s haphazard approach to decision-making that quickly leads to U-turns and damages confidence in the economy and governance as a result.

He states that the UPND believes in consultative leadership to inform bold and firm decisions that we are and would never be ashamed to defend once the key stakeholders have had their inputs.

Mr. Hichilema says the UPND has now fully been vindicated that the only thing that is consistent about the PF is the constant inconsistency.
