Choose well this year, Magande counsels Zambians

Zambians have been advised to this year focus their efforts and thoughts on how best they can choose political leaders who will lead them in next five years.

The opposition National Movement for Progress (NMP) is urging Zambians to do so while ensuring that peace in their Country and the love of one other remain sustained.

NMP president Ng’andu Magande has observed that 2015 has been a difficult year and a majority of Zambians who have felt the pain now know what will happen if the economy is not properly organized.

Mr. Magande has suggested that 2016 is a year the people of Zambia should start reflecting on what can be done to benefit from their mineral wealth even when global commodity prices are not good.

In an interview with Qfm News by telephone Mr. Magande who is also former Finance Minister has recalled that he personally tried to do this in both 1981 and 2008.

Mr. Magande says his idea has been that the Country comes up with a formula where surpluses from mineral export earnings in times of good commodity prices be kept in a development fund whose purpose will be to support the mines when commodity prices begin to drop as was the case in 2015.

He says this is especially that commodity prices are known historically that they fluctuate.
