Old age is no disease- Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has urged people in the Country to refrain from mistreating the aged because ageing is not a disease but a stage in life.

President Lungu says it is unacceptable for any old person especially women that reach 60 years of age to be branded as witches.

President Lungu was speaking this morning when he visited Matero After Care Centre in Lusaka where he presented assorted food items and Chitenge Materials to the aged.

And President Lungu has observed the need do a lot of education to families looking after the aged in homes.

He says the aged have played significant roles in developing the country.

Meanwhile President Lungu has also donated assorted baby items to New Year babies at Lusaka’s Chingwele Clinic which recorded 5 New Year babies.

President Edgar Lungu further donated foodstuffs and an unspecified amount of money at Kasisi Children’s Home in Chongwe District.

The items include bags of rice, sugar, cartons of milk, toiletries, Biscuits and cooking oil among other things.

Such donations are an annual affair by the President for the less privileged, especially during the festival season.

The Head of State also helped the children to sing the National Anthem and corrected them where they were making mistakes.

He was impressed that the orphanage has continued to keep children in a loving and inspiring environment where they grow up health and well-educated.

Deputy Finance Minister Christopher Mvunga, Lusaka Mayor, Lusaka District Commissioner and Patriotic Front Members accompanied the Republican President as he spent time touring and interacting with children at the orphanage.

And the sister in charge sister Mariola Mierzegewska has pleaded with president Lungu to help children who have reached 18 years and above to acquire their National Registration Cards.

She says about 10 children have reached the required age but don’t have NRCs.
