Lungu counsels Zambia Army ahead of general elections

President Edgar Lungu says he expects the Zambia Army to work even harder in 2016 it being a crucial year in which the Country is holding general elections.

President Lungu says the challenge ahead of the Army is to remain professional, non-partisan, loyal to the Zambian constitution, the government and the people of Zambia.

He states that as Commander In Chief he is urging army officers not to allow themselves to be used by elements with intentions to get to power through illegal or dubious means.

President Lungu says the people of Zambia are a peace loving nation hence the need to cherish and uphold this, the more reason the Army’s role in this respect will be very cardinal.

He was speaking at the Zambia Army annual ball held in Lusaka last night.

And President Lungu states that government remains committed to ensuring the needed resources to attain the required professionalism in the defence force.

He says government is aware of the situation in the Army regarding the state of the infrastructure, logistical backup and difficulties its faces in conducting its operations.

The President says his administration is addressing these issues, for it is determined to mould, equip and maintain an effective Army responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people of Zambia.

He has affirmed that, despite many challenges the nation is faced with, his government will look into more critical requests you have so far made to cushion your challenges.
