ZCTU welcomes ban on casualisation

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has welcomed the presidential assent to amendments made to the Country’s Employment Law.

Speaking during a media briefing today, ZCTU president Chishimba Nkole says his congress welcomes the move because the amendments to law have outlawed casualisation and other inappropriate forms of employment.ZCTU chishimba-nkole

Mr. Nkole says with such amendments, the ZCTU is certain that jobs in the Country will now be secure in line with the Decent Work Agenda of the International Labour Organization.

He says the ZCTU is warning employers who have been in the habit of employing workers on casual basis to stop the practice.

Mr. Nkole says that the ZCTU is in this case urging authorities not to show any leniency to offenders with respect to the amendments made to the employment Act.

And Mr Nkole says the trade union is concerned that there is still delays in reviewing the Public Order Act.

He says the delay to amend the Public Order Act has made it difficult for opposition political parties to conduct their politics freely and without restrictions.

He says the ZCTU believes that for as long as the Public Order Act is not reformed Zambia will continue to witness scenes of political violence.

Mr. Nkole says ZCTU demands an end to political violence as the country heads to the 2016 general elections.
