Political scientist, Zimba urges meeting on political violence

Political Scientist Christopher Zumani Zimba has called on political party leaders to call for a meeting where they will discuss ways of curbing Political violence in the country as the country heads to the 2016 elections.

Mr. Zimba who is also a policy lecturer at the University of Zambia says Political Parties must come up with an electoral code of conduct that will spell out the dos and don’ts as way of doing away with political intolerance, character assassination and use of vulgar language against each other.

He says the ruling party should be in the forefront of inculcating a culture of respect for other political parties.

Mr. Zimba says there is also need for the party presidents to tame their Members if violence is to be eradicated in Zambian politics.

He notes that failure to curb political violence could results in voter apathy in the 2016 elections.

Mr. Zimba says a dialogue among political party leaders is the only way to end political violence in the country and not insulting each other.
