A Lusaka Local Court Senior Magistrate has been convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices involving K5,000.

Acting Chief Resident Magistrate Aridah Chulu convicted Kaputo Modest Ng’andwe, 43, of House no. 14700/M Libala South, Lusaka for soliciting a bribe of K5, 000 in a divorce matter he was presiding over.

The sentence was effective beginning 29th December, 2015.

Details of the offence are that Mr. Ng’andwe on dates unknown did solicit a sum of K5,000 as an inducement or reward and actually received K1,500 gratification from Mwaba Munkondya to pass judgement in his favour.

The Anti-Corruption Commission in October, 2013 arrested and charged Ng’andwe with corrupt practices by public officer contrary to Section 19 (1) as read with Section 41 of the Anti- corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
