Police pursue criminals targeting Toyota Corollas

Police in Lusaka have declared war against criminals who have been targeting Toyota Corollas which are being used as Taxis.

Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda in a statement to QFM News says the criminals are either stealing these vehicles whilst parked or pretend to book and later snatch them before or after reaching their intended destinations.

Ms. Chanda says some of the stolen vehicles have been used in the commission of other crimes and later abandoned.

She says investigations into these cases have intensified and led to the recoveries of some of the vehicles while others have not yeMunganga Chandat been recovered.

She has since appealed to all taxi drivers more especially those operating at night to be accompanied and not to offer services to suspicious looking clients.

Ms. Chanda adds that taxi operators should make sure that their taxis are registered as most of those targeted are unregistered.

She has further advised the operators to install security gadgets on the vehicles for easy tracking.

Meanwhile Police are still searching for the suspect who was involved in the shooting incident in which a tanker driver was killed and went into hiding the day he was discharged from the University Teaching Hospital.

Ms. Chanda adds that the Police is taking disciplinary action against the officer who was guarding the suspect the day he was discharged.

She has since appealed to the family of the deceased and tanker drivers to remain calm as Police continue searching for the suspect as the case is still active.
