Villagers in Wachepa Village seek govt’s aid

Villagers in Wachepa Village in Chief Kapatamoyo’s Chiefdom in Chipata district have appealed government to quickly come to their aid and build them houses as promised in 2011.

The villagers have complained that ever since their houses were demolished by a combined team of Police officers and court bailiffs in October 2011 they have been living in makeshift tents on the land they have occupied since the early 1950’s.

They have explained that their homes were demolished after a businessman claimed ownership of the land on which their houses were built, but the same businessman lost the case in court and government assured them that it will build homes for them which has not happened.

They have bitterly complained that they have been subjected to living inhumane conditions while government appears not to be paying any attention to their predicament.
