Nawakwi empowers Muslim women

Nawakwi with MwanzaForum for Democracy and Democracy (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi has called on fellow politicians to help empower women in the country.

Speaking when she handed over the first consignment of 1, 500 chicks worthy K32, 000 of the 3, 000 chicks worth K64, 000 to Muslim women in Lusaka today, Ms. Nawakwi noted that women are still lagging behind in terms of empowerment.

She says the consignment comes with a full batch including feed and medicine so that the beneficiaries do not suffer in looking for other requirements of rearing chickens.

Ms. Nawakwi says the next and last consignment of 1, 500 chicks will be delivered after two weeks so that there is proper spacing in rearing the chickens by the Muslim women.

She adds that after 42 weeks when the chicks are fully grown, the women will be able to realize about K120, 000 from the 3, 000 chicks which she says can help in eradicating poverty in the country.

The FDD Leader hopes that the grant will be extended to other areas as a way of empowering women in the country.

Speaking at the same event, Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia Women’s Chairperson Miriam Shawa says the Muslim women are excited about the grant saying it will go a long way in empowering them.

Ms Shawa says 30 women will benefit from the grant from each Mosque in Lusaka.
