Msoni questions source of funding for Lungu, First Lady

All People’s Congress (APC) President Nason Msoni says government should disclose the source of the funds of the donations that President Edgar Lungu and the First Lady Esther Lungu are making.

Mr. Msoni says much as there is nothing wrong with a one off donation from the president or the first lady, the escalation of the amount of donations to an extent that it becomes the way of running government is a source of concern.

He notes that if the country’s delivery systems have collapsed, the best way is to recreate the systems so that they are able to deliver to the people as donations is not the appropriate way to run the government.

Mr. Msoni says he does not think the funds are personal funds thus the president and the first lady should explain to the people where the funds are coming from.

He adds that running a government through donations is not sustainable in the long term thus something should be done quickly about it.

Mr. Msoni has further charged that the donations by the president are premature campaigns and might disadvantage the opposition and has since called on the electoral commission of Zambia to come in and level the playing field for all political players.
