Hope for Human Rights urges dismissal for ERB Executive

Hope for Human Rights says the decision by the Energy Regulation Board to authorize the increase in electricity tariffs by ZESCO by up to 200% is ill-timed considering that Zambians are going through a very difficult time.

Public Affairs Officer Francis Brotherton says while his organisation understands the need to attract investors in the power sector, the increase in electricity tariffs of up to 200 percent is unacceptable.

He says his organisation is calling on President Edgar Lungu to dismiss the entire Executive at the ERB, stating that their action is meant to de-campaign the PF considering that the king makers are the poor from compounds who vote enmass.

Mr. Brotherton adds that the increase in electricity tariffs will encourage deforestation which has already impacted negatively on the environment.
