The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says it will not hesitate to separate with employees who have demonstrated and exhibited corrupt, dishonest conduct, theft of public funds and gross negligence in the manner they administer government revenue.

The agency is clarifying and responding to a letter to the Editor published in the Post Newspaper, dated 26th December, 2015 in which a concerned citizen expressed concern over the dismissal of some RTSA employees over the past two years.

RTSA Information Officer Fredrick Mubanga in a statement says the conduct of employees and officials of RTSA should be of the highest standards of transparency and accountability, which are the core values of the agency.

Mr. Mubanga says dismissal or separating with such employees is part of RTSA’s clean up agenda towards zero tolerance to corruption in the agency and the theft of tax payers’ money, designed to enhance public confidence in the RTSA.

He has urged RTSA employees to be corrupt free and renew their commitment towards enhancing public confidence.

Mr. Mubanga says RTSA employees will contribute to the delivery of quality services to the people of Zambia as they have a duty towards national building, a mandate given to them by the Government on behalf of the general citizenry.

He adds that RTSA is the highest non- tax revenue collector that contributes revenue to government through the National Road Fund from revenues payable under the Road Traffic Act in respect of fees for licenses, permits and concessions granted and registration fees.

He says the agency endeavors to associate itself with employees who execute their duties in an accountable and transparent manner, whilst exhibiting high moral values through exemplary conduct both on and off duty.

And Mr. Mubanga says contrary to the assertions that the RTSA does not work together with the Zambia police in matters of road traffic law enforcement, the Agency enjoys a very good working relationship with the Zambia Police in enforcing the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.

The RTSA Information Officer says in fact, the agency and the Zambia Police are currently undertaking a joint festive season road safety enforcement operation throughout the country.
