Progress on upgrading of tertiary hospitals cheers govt

Government says the upgrading of four tertiary hospitals namely the university teaching hospital (UTH), Ndola, Kitwe and Livingstone central hospitals is progressing well.

Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says the USD $20 Million Saudi fund and the k204 million from the euro bond which was allocated to the ministry of health were directed towards the modernization of these hospitals in order to improve the provision of tertiary health services.

Dr. Kasonde notes that the modernization of these hospitals has strengthened the referral system citing that government has also provided specialized equipment.

He adds that the equipment such as the CT scans and Cath Lab has already been procured and installed in the institutions thereby improving access to specialized services by members of the public.

Dr. Kasonde further states that a total of 38 district hospitals are currently under construction and are at different stages of development.
