Four people from the same family last evening died in a road traffic accident along Great North Road at 15 miles bridge.

Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) Public Relations Manager Mukela Mangolwa has disclosed the development to QFM News that a preliminary investigation by the agency shows that the accident was as a result of dangerous driving.

Mr. Mangolwa has explained that the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident overtook several other cars on a continuous line without regard to oncoming traffic adding that four people died in the head-on-collision.

He furthermore explains that one adult male and two juveniles died on the spot while the driver of the Toyota Corolla registration No. ADC 6676 died on the way to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

He says the Toyota Corolla was also overloaded with seven passengers that included 2 men, 2 women and 3 children bringing the number to seven.

Mr. Mangolwa states that on the other hand the seven occupants of the other motor vehicle involved in the collision, a Toyota Coaster Registration No ALP 7966 driven by Lewis Nyoni, NRC 236919/17/1 coming from the Southern direction, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to UTH.

Mr. Mangolwa furthermore states that the driver of the corolla was initially trapped on the car which was extensively mangled but was later rescued whereas the bus had a shattered windscreen and extensively damaged in the front.

The RTSA Public Relations Manager discloses that all passengers in the Toyota Corolla were Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) nationals.

He says it is unfortunate that the agency has recorded fatalities after having gone through the Christmas Eve with no road accidents.

He has since emphasized that RTSA will continue with its enhanced law enforcement patrols during the festive season covering all parts of the country in an effort to ensure that the agency tackles some of the contributory factors to the road traffic crashes like un-licensing driving and drink driving.
