ZESCO restores power after blackout

The power utility company Zesco says it has restored power to all the eight Provinces affected by last night’s power blackout caused by a system disturbance.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry KaKapatapata has told QFM News via telephone that power was restored to Lusaka province at around 21:53hrs last night, while Copperbelt had power restored around 23:56hrs with the rest of the provinces having power restored at about 07:40hrs this morning.

He says preliminary investigations have revealed that the system disturbance was caused by the failure of base bar isolator 506 on Kafue Gorge Line 2 at Leopards Hill Sub–Station triggering the tripping of the two major power stations at Kafue Gorge and Kariba North Bank.

Mr Kapata says the interconnector to Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls Station continued supplying power to Southern and Western Provinces.

The ZESCO Spokesperson says investigations are still underway to establish the cause of the isolator failure at Leopards Hill Sub –Station which plunged the eight provinces in total darkness.
