Medical Stores Limited and the Zambia Flying Doctor Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at increasing access to and availability of quality-assured affordable essential medicines to all areas of the country.

Medical Stores Managing Director Dr. Boniface Fundafunda says the partnership also aims to improve distribution of quality and affordable essentials medicines throughout Zambia.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, Dr. Fundafunda the company is facing some challenges in distributing medicines in far flung areas due to the poor road network thereby hampering the delivery of medicines and medical supplies.

And Zambia Flying Doctor Service Board Chairman Dr. Maureen Chisembele has disclosed that the company needs about 36 Million United States Dollars to improve its aviation infrastructure.

Dr. Chisembele says in order to keep the essential life saving service, ZFDS needs about 6 aircrafts.

And Ministry of Health Acting Permanent Secretary John Moyo says the Ministry is hopeful that the collaboration between the two institutions will ensure that there is timely availability of adequate, quality and safe essential pharmaceutical products and equipment to any part of country.

Mr. Moyo says the partnership will also improve the health status and general wellbeing of the communities in hard to reach areas by improving the availability of medicines and medical supplies.
