The United Party for National Development (UPND) says it fully supports FDD President Edith Nawakwi’s demands for President Edgar Lungu to apologise to her following a violent attack by suspected PF cadres on meeting she addressed in Mtendere yesterday.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the attack on a peaceful is unacceptable and has no place in Zambia.

He says the act must be condemned quickly and publicly by the President in order to prevent more such attacks, otherwise it is becoming clear that violent cadres will continue to conduct more violent attacks on political opponents.

Mr. Kakoma says the State, and in particular the Commander in Chief of the armed forces President Lungu must take up the responsibility of protecting citizens, regardless of age, gender, tribe or political affiliation.

He notes that at this time of increasing hardship, it is more important than ever for leaders to be sharing their ideas and proposals with the people about how they would like to see the situation turned around.

Meanwhile, the PF says it is disturbed with the criminal levels of desperation the UPND is stooping to in a bid to distort the good image of President Edgar Lungu, who has naturally been accepted by Zambians from diverse political and religious divides as one of their own.

PF Media and Publicity Vice Chairman Sunday Chanda says the most recent such desperate attempt is the embattled opposition parties decision to digitally manipulate an image that appears to show President Lungu engaged in a conversation with a woman, supposedly at the just ended ZAF Annual Ball at the ultra-modern ball room of the ZAF Officers mess.

Mr. Chanda says President Lungu has survived offensive lies by the infamous cartel such as cooked up medical records, accusation of foreign parentage and just general slander and libel by well-known media outlets whose coverage Mr. Hichilema and UPND lines up for.

He says the PF is certain he will come out this particular derogatory manipulation, an even greater person that is loved by Zambians due to his humility and his ability to connect with ordinary Zambians, rather than bitter tribalists that those that attack him.
