Zesco confirms Akumu interest

Kenyan international Anthony Akumu may soon join his former Gor Mahia counterpart David Owino at Zambian champions Zesco United after the club confirmed interest in the midfielder who currently plies his trade with Sudanese side Al Khartoum.

Akumu is said to be unhappy in Sudan and while at the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, confirmed he is willing to consider new offers ahead of the 2016 season and Ndola has emerged as his next potential destination as he looks to make the next step in his career.

Zesco United Secretary Justin Mumba confirmed that in deed the midfielder is headed there for talks and is hopeful that a deal will be reached.

“The club is very much interested in him but that will also depend on how he feels about the club and moving to Zambia. At the moment we have not agreed on anything and we are waiting for him to land then have the talks; we remain hopeful that a deal will be reached,” he said.

Akumu was one of the shining stars for Kenyan at the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge though Kenya exited the competition at the quarter finals stage. He is one of the four players that featured in every minute of Kenya’s matches at the tournament.
