TIZ opposes reinstatement of NATSAVE MD

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has opposed plans by the new National Savings and Credit Bank (NATSAVE) board to reinstate Managing Director Cephas Chabu who was sent on forced leave to facilitate investigations into allegations of financial irregularities leveled against him.Goodwell-Lungu-TIZ

In a letter to the NATSAVE Board Chairman and copied to the ACC Director General and Secretary to the Treasury made available to QFM News, TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says his organisation has received information that the new NATSAVE board intends to reinstate Mr. Chabu as Managing Director.

Mr. Lungu says if this is true, it will mean the board is betraying the trust of the whistleblowers and the President’s directive to protect whistleblowers and ensure the fight against corruption is unhindered.

He says this would also mean that the board wants to promote financial irregularities allegedly being perpetrated by the Managing Director.

Mr. Lungu adds that such actions are bound to damage the President’s message on anti-corruption beyond redemption.

He says TIZ therefore seeks clarification on the allegations with regards the reinstatement of the NATSAVE Managing Director.
