The Zambia Police Service called on the general public to be security cautious during the festive season period.

Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja in his Christmas message to the public notes that criminals would always want to strike on unsuspecting members of the public during this period.

He advised those going shopping to secure their vehicles and see to it that they do not expose valuables and personal effects that may attract the attention of criminals.

Mr. Kanganja says the Zambia Police Service has put in place security measures to ensure security to the general public throughout the country.

He since directed all Provincial Commanders to deploy police officers so as to intensify both foot and motorized patrols in all crime prone areas.

Mr. Kanganja has further appealed to members of the public to help Police realize a crime free festive season by playing their part in ensuring their personal safety.

And the Police Chief says Police will be working with the Road Transport and Safety Agency in the enforcement of road traffic regulations during the festive season.

He has since appealed Public Service Vehicle Drivers and operators to observe road traffic regulations by avoiding over loading, over speeding and use of unroad-worthy vehicles.

Meanwhile Mr. Kanganja says crime incidents by 5,400 cases up to the third quarter of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014.

He says 47,490 cases were recorded in 2014 compared to 42,090 cases.

The Police Chief says this represents a reduction of 11.37 percent of crime incidents reported to Police stations.
