Hope for Human Rights (HHR) has advised political players to always follow the provisions of the law each time they want to hold public meetings to avoid getting into unnecessary confrontations with the Police.

HHR Executive Director Smart Chanda says it is worrying that most of the violent clashes that have occurred this year involving politicians are as a result of non compliance with the provisions of the Public Order Act.

And Mr. Chanda says it is unfair for opposition to accuse the Police of getting instructions from the President each time their meetings are disrupted.

Mr. Chanda says it is must be noted that the Police are mandated to keep law and order in the country and thus the need for politicians to abide by the provisions of the law.

He says it has come to the attention of his organization that most of the times when politicians want to hold meetings they rarely notify the Police leading to clashes.

Mr. Chanda has since implored political parties to always notify the Police in good time each time they plan to hold meetings to avoid clashing with the Police.
