Ms. Joyce says her Country however hopes that stakeholders will engage on this call constructively.

She says she understands that this initiative recognizes the importance of increasing transparency between the mining industry, the government, civil society and the public.

Ms. Joyce notes that Mining is clearly an important industry to Zambia and its economic development.

She was reacting to recent calls by the Zambia chamber of mines that Zambia considers coming up with consensus for a long term strategy to diversify the mining industry and the rest of the economy.

And Centre for Policy Trade and Development Executive Director Isabel Mukelabai has observed the urgent need to ensure Zambia develops a clear-cut policy on how to manage the mining sector, with consistency in the application of policies.

Ms. Mukelabai is of the view that this will enable the sector to thrive, and ensure a good and reliable security of tenure on investment to allow investors to plan.

She states that CTPD supports the call for a consensus-building indaba at the soonest possible time but without being politicized.
