Lungu demands Police professionalism

President Edgar Lungu has demanded for professionalism and integrity from the Police command in the discharge of duties.
He says his administration wants to restore professionalism in the Zambia Police Service to enable it serve the interests of Zambians fairly.
President Lungu has since cautioned Police officers against being lured and compromised by certain opposition political party leaders on the pretext that they will be rewarded with positions when they come into office.
He says he will not hesitate to retire what he termed as Police ‘cadres’.
Mr Lungu states that there are Police officers who are related to opposition political party leaders and cannot punish them on that basis, warning that he will have no option, but retire such officers on professional grounds.
The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces states that as the nation will be going to the elections, tempers will be flaring amongst political players hence the need for police officers to remain calm during this period, but be firm and fair in the discharge of their duties.
He has emphasized that the Police is there to serve the interests of Zambians and not political parties hence the need for them to remain professional at all times.
President Lungu said this at State House this morning when he sworn-in Bonny Kapeso as Northern Province Police Commissioner, Alex Chilufya as Eastern Province Commissioner, Lackson Sakala as North Western Province Commissioner and Charles Lungu as Western Province Police Commissioner.
And speaking to journalists shortly after the swearing in ceremony, Northern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso says the Police command in the province will not be selective in enforcing the law.
