Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has clarified misleading reports by some NATSAVE employees and union leaders purporting that the three directors who have been re-instated by the Ministry of Finance are under investigations for financial irregularities at the Bank.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu in a statement says the three directors of the bank are whistleblowers who have reported financial irregularities to law enforcement agencies on alleged financial misconduct of the Managing Director Cephas Chifwembe Chabu.

Mr. Lungu says among the among the many scandals at NATSAVE some of which TIZ revealed 2 weeks ago is that the NATSAVE Board in December 2014 approved new conditions of service which abolished payment of housing allowance.

He says despite the December 2014 board resolution, the Managing Director in January 2015 to November 2015 went against this Board resolution by demanding that the bank pays for his house rent at about K30,000 rentals a month, six months in advance.

Mr. Lungu says the total payments as at November 2015 was K405,388.

He adds that in addition to this, the Managing Director still demanded and was being paid K18,000 as housing allowance every month incorporated to his salary.

Mr Lungu has since commended the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Ministry of Finance for sending the Managing Director Mr Chabu on forced leave to pave way for investigations.

He says TIZ warns all the Union leaders to desist from misleading the public on who is actually under investigations.
