ZCSD counsels retrenched Mopani miners

The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) has advised retrenched miners at Mopani Copper Mines to use their K18 million ex-gratia tax free payment packages wisely.

ZCSD Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape says it is sad to hear reports of some retrenched miners misusing their money instead of investing the money in things that will help them move forward.

He advised the ex miners not get too excited and misuse the money they have been paid, but plan well with their families on how best to use money so that they do not end up living in poverty afterwards.

Mr. Mwape says those that are able to do business can invest the money into business ventures.

He also notes that the miners already have land which the President directed that it be given to them for agricultural purposes.

Mr. Mwape has since implored the ex miners to do something productive with the money, and seek counsel on what they can do with the money and not spend it on luxurious things.

Mr. Mwape has further commended Mopani Copper Mines for honoring its promise to pay the former miners in good time.
