Mulongoti cries foul over presidential requirements

People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti has cried foul over the requirement for presidential candidates to present 1, 000 supporters drawn from all the ten provinces during the filling of presidential nominations as stipulated in the new constitution.

Mr. Mulongoti has appealed to government to re-visit the clause and see if it is possible to remedy it.

He says it is not possible for some political parties to avail registered voters.

Mr. Mulongoti says it is a logistical nightmare because ferrying 100 registered voters from each province requires accommodation, transport among other things.

But Green Party President Peter Sinkamba has welcomed the requirement in the adopted constitution amendment bill.

He says this will help politicians to have members from all the ten provinces.

Among other qualifications for presidential nominations, article 100 (i) stipulates that a person qualifies to be nominated as a candidate for election as president if that person is supported by at least 100 registered voters from each province.
