RB calls for reconciliation

Former President Rupiah Banda has called for reconciliation among Zambians in order to foster economic and social development.

Mr. Banda says Zambians only have one country and must therefore work together to find solutions to the challenges being faced.

He notes that the problems of unemployment, youth agitation, hunger and power shortages among others are not peculiar to Zambia and should be tackled through concerted efforts by all citizens.

Mr. Banda made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi Mrs. Salome Mwananshiku and Mission staff at the Zambian house in Lilongwe.RB 1

Mr. Banda recounted his experience as a young diplomat, saying he always put the interest of Zambia first because diplomats have an important responsibility of strengthening Zambia’s foreign relations with other countries.

He said he was impressed with the current youthful crop of diplomats who are able to represent Zambia effectively and thus help to develop it.

On the 2016 general elections, Mr. Banda emphasized the need for tolerance, forgiveness and peaceful co-existence among Zambians.

While in Malawi, Mr. Banda, first republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and Malawian President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika graced the wedding of Gwebe Kaunda, daughter to Home Affairs Deputy Minister Colonel. Panji Kaunda at Lilongwe’s President Walmont Hotel.

Both Dr. Kaunda and Mr. Banda have since left Malawi for Zambia.
This is contained in a statement issued to QFM News by first secretary at Zambia’s high commission to Malawi Chansa Kabwela.
