First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda says young people have a duty to ensure that Zambia remains peaceful and stable.

Dr. Kaunda says the founding fathers were guided at independence to coin the slogan ‘One Zambia One Nation’ in order to build a strong nation and promote peace.

The first Head of State made these remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi Salome Mwananshiku at the Chancery in Lilongwe yesterday.

Dr. Kaunda says the slogan of ‘One Zambia One Nation’, which was born from God’s teachings, has led to the peaceful co-existence of all the 72 tribes over the years hence the need to continue to safeguard the peace.

He says when Zambia attained independence the people had a vision of what God wanted them to do and that the nation remained united.

Dr. Kaunda notes that confusion has destroyed some nations on the African continent and in other parts of the world but Zambia has remained peaceful.

And High Commissioner Mwananshiku says Zambia has continued to enjoy peace and unity because of the solid foundation laid by Dr. Kaunda and the founding fathers.

Later, Dr. Kaunda visited the Mausoleum of Malawi’s late first President Dr. Kamuzu Banda where he laid a wreath.

After the brief ceremony, Dr. Kaunda told journalists that the peace and stability that Malawi and Zambia continue to enjoy is a testament of the foundation that was laid by the liberation leaders for future generations.

Dr. Kaunda says he worked well with Dr. Banda and he prayed that his soul continues to rest in peace.

Dr. Kaunda is in Malawi to attend today’s wedding of his grand daughter, Gwebe Kaunda.

Dr. Kaunda is joined by Zambia’s fourth President Rupiah Banda who arrived in Lilongwe yesterday.

This is contained in a statement made available to QFM News by Zambia’s High Commission to Malawi First Press Secretary Chansa Kabwela.
