The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has pledged its support to the new Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja.

FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi says Mr. Kanganja’s track record of professionalism and fairness is well articulated and vividly exhibited from his service at the Registrar of Societies when he took over from Clement Andeleki.

Mr. Chipenzi explains that Mr. Kanganja managed to bring order and build public and stakeholders’ confidence in the operations of the Registrar of Societies Department which had deteriorated during Andeleki’s reign.

He says FODEP is confident that Mr. Kanganja’s appointment as Inspector General of Police is not misplaced but the right position for him and appointed at the right time.

Mr. Chipenzi adds that it is their sincere hope that Mr. Kanganja would not fall in the pitfalls that his predecessor, Madam Stellah Libongani fell into by pitying those in power against the opposition and other critical voices in the administration of the notorious public order Act and in the general enforcement of the law.

He says FODEP, therefore, looks forward to existence of a professional, ethical and fair Zambia Police Force in the country so as to restore stakeholders’ and public confidence that was eroded during Madam Libongani’s tenure.

Mr. Chipenzi further states that having being appointed 12 months before tripartite elections, Mr. Kanganja’s impartiality and professionalism will be further measured before, during and after this crucial national event.
