A suspected cattle disease has broken out in some parts of Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt province.

Lufwanyama Veterinary Assistant District Officer David Kamwela has confirmed the development saying the disease is suspected to be Anaplasmosis.

Mr. Kamwela says the tests have already been conducted and the district is now waiting for results.

He says the outbreak is suspected to be as a result of illegal entry of animals into the district from unknown places.

The Assistant Veterinary Officer has however assured farmers not to panic as the disease will soon be contained.

He has urged farmers to avoid buying animals from sources outside the district and asked them to report to the nearest veterinary office if they suspect that their animals are sick.

Meanwhile, chiefs in the district are happy with the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU)/NATSAVE Bunjimi Asset plus loan facility being provided to farmers.

Chief Lumpuma, who is a beneficiary of a tractor under the facility, says the initiative by the ZNFU should be supported by all well-meaning farmers who want to be productive by way of mechanising their farming.

And Chieftainess Shimukunami, who is also a beneficiary of a tractor-propelled Sheller, says it is high time that Lufwanyama is recognised and put on the map as one of high agricultural productive districts in the country.

She has encouraged her subjects to take part in the Bunjimi Asset Plus facility being offered by ZNFU, which she says is very rare and must be utilized.

This is contained in a Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) Weekly Brief made available to QFM News by ZNFU Outreach and Membership Office Manager Grace Moonga.
