Mwila constitutes probe in underage NRC issuance

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila says he has constituted a team of investigators to look into reports that underage people are being issued with National Registration Cards in certain provinces in the ongoing mobile issuance exercise.

Mr. Mwila has told QFM News that he is aware of reports that some political players are conniving with parents to take their underage children to get NRCs and eventually obtain voters cards.

He says anyone found wanting will be dealt with sternly as the act constitutes a criminal offence.

And Mr. Mwila says government is also ensuring that no foreign nationals, more especially in border districts, are issued with the NRC’s as the case has been in the past.

He says his ministry has placed Immigration Officers at all registration points to scrutinize people seeking to be issued with National Registration Cards.
