The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) says the change in the Police hierarchy is not enough to restore professionalism in the Police service.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says what the people want is the change in the operation system of the Police.

Mr. Mwanza says merely changing individuals at the top does not change anything in the manner the Police operate, stating that the unethical and unprofessional conduct of the Police will continue as long as the system remains the same.

He states that what is needed is to amend the Police Act and bring it in tune with the country’s democratic principles.

Mr Mwanza adds that there is need to free the Police from political interference if professionalism is to be restored.

He says as FDD they do not believe the new Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja will do anything different under the current Police Act.

And the Zambia Direct Democratic Movement (ZDDM) says they have high expectations from the new Inspector General of Police.

ZDDM Vice President Charles Kafumbo says it is their prayer that Mr.Kanganja will not disappoint the people of Zambia, but will perform according to their expectations.
