Shang’ombo sugar plantation set to take off early next year

Sinjembela Member of Parliament Poniso Njeulu has disclosed that a 30,000-hectors sugar plantation project is earmarked to takeoff in Shang’ombo District early next year.

Mr. Njeulu who is also Western Province Minister says the project whose preliminary works started mid this year is expected to create about 2,500 jobs.

He has disclosed to Qfm News in an interview that so far an initial 250 casual workers have been employed on the project.

Mr. Njeulu notes that once sugar production commences, Zambia will start earning more foreign exchange from sugar exports.

He says the target market for the sugar that will be produced is Angola which currently gets sugar from Brazil.
