The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) in Lusaka has called on the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) to pay teachers who have started marking Grade Nine Examinations today their allowances.

PROTUZ Lusaka Province Chairperson Nelson Zulu tells QFM News in a statement that the union has been receiving complaints from teachers marking these examinations that they are not paid promptly.

Mr. Mwale says some teachers have also complained that they were not paid for marking G9 examinations last year.

he says the teachers should be paid immediately to motivate them to do a quality job.

He says it is for this reason that the union is urging ECZ to ensure that they pay teachers marking these examinations their lunch and transport allowances promptly to avoid repeating what has been happening in the past.

Mr. Mwale has urged the ECZ to also pay the per script allowances immediately as opposed to paying them six months after marking.

Meanwhile, the PROTUZ Lusaka Province Chairperson has commended teachers for doing a great job this year as witnessed from the Grade 7 results which have recorded a percentage increase in passing rate.
