ZRA explains fortnight-ago ASYCUDAWorld system failure

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has disclosed that it on Friday the 20th of November experienced interruption on most of its ASYCUDAWorld major connectivity links.

The ASYCUDAWorld which is a system the ZRA uses for Customs operations uses optic fiber for primary connectivity and TDMA VSAT system, a satellite based system, for secondary connectivity.

And the ZRA Corporate Communication Unit Research and Planning Department has explained to Qfm News in a statement that here was a condition that was noticed on the links that come through one of the optic fiber service providers.

The ZRA Research and Planning Department says the condition was leading to the poor performance of the rest of the links.

It says the analysis of the problem by the service provider, working with ZRA IT, revealed that the links from the South, which is Livingstone, Vic Falls and Kazungula, were the source of the problem.

The ZRA Research and Planning Department states that when the links were however isolated to normalize the rest of the links.

It says a temporary link was thus established with the links from the South connecting from a different point from the rest of the links as a solution to the problem which it says is now the current status.

The ZRA Research and Planning Department has since made an assurance that a more permanent arrangement is being prepared to run the links from the South separated from the rest of the links.

It has also disclosed that on Monday the 23rd of November around 16:30 hours, a power surge affected some major systems at ZRA Head Office, including the TDMA VSAT system and that in the process corrupting the system.

It notes that the TDMA VSAT system, which is meant to be the backup to some stations and is the primary connectivity for a number of stations, developed a fault due to the power interruption and that the fault on the TDMA VSAT was only resolved on Tuesday the 1st of December last week .
