Zambia has unique opportunity in Constitution development – Sikota

United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota says Zambia currently has a unique opportunity to make progress in Constitution development.

Mr. Sikota has also observed that given the stage at which the current constitution making process has reached it is clear that the Country cannot have a referendum separate from the 2016 general elections.

He says the cost of holding a referendum before the 2016 general are truly prohibitive.

Mr. Sikota says anyone who is honest and does love Zambia will concede that holding a referendum before the next general elections would be a disservice to the people of Zambia.

He suggests that anyone who loves Zambia and is honest will also agree that having a clause in the constitution that will do away with the holding of presidential by-elections are imperative.

In an interview with Qfm News Mr. Sikota who is also a renowned constitutional lawyer by profession further suggests that anyone who is honest and does love Zambia would equally agree that having clauses that do away with holding of Parliamentary by-elections are a necessity to have in the Country’s new constitution.

Mr. Sikota states that anybody that loves Zambia will further concede that Zambia does need a clause in the new constitution that will allow Parliament have control over  the Executive on the issue of debt contraction.

He is of the view that debt contraction needs such control.
