Over 100 millers had by Wednesday, 2nd December submitted applications to access subsidized maize from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) following government’s directive.
Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda has told Qfm News by telephone that 54 contracts to access the FRA maize were signed as of Monday the 30th November.
Mr. Lungu adds that 12 delivery notes were issued to the millers that have signed contracts with the FRA.
Mr. Lubinda states that price of mealie meal has since started reducing as a result of the measure government has taken.
He says it has come to his attention that some millers begun reducing mealie meal prices as far back as two weeks ago.
