Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda says the treasury has released the remaining K247.5 million to settle the remaining farmers who had sold their maize to the Food Reserve Agency.
Mr Lubinda has told Parliament in a ministerial statement that this is in addition to the K646.8 million released earlier, bringing the total paid out to farmers who sold their maize to the FRA to eight hundred and ninety four million, two hundred and eighty nine thousand, five hundred and seventy five kwacha.
Mr. Lubinda says the final disbursement of funds to pay farmers is being disbursed to various districts to offset the balance owed to farmers.
He states that this is a major achievement considering that all the funds to pay farmers were mobilized within a month after the closure of the marketing exercise on 31st October, 2015.
