Honey Partnership bemoans lack of bee keeping policy

The Zambia Honey Partnership has bemoaned the failure by government to develop a bee keeping policy to enable the industry thrive.

Speaking during a dissemination workshop this morning, ZHP Chairperson Munshimbwe Chitalu said that this is despite proposals made by the industry for government to draft a policy on bee keeping.

He says the failure to develop this policy has negatively hindered the development of the sector which has the potential to effectively contribute to the economy and create over 30 thousand jobs.

Mr. Chitalu has since appealed to government relevant Ministries to help expedite the long outstanding policy issue.

He says ZHP will continue to engage the relevant Ministries and Departments to ensure that the framework becomes reality to guide the sector to even higher heights.

He says Honey is a multi-billion dollar industry which could help turn around the slumping economy.

Mr. Chitalu says there is need to seriously develop the industry as it is sustainable, comparatively cheaper and less labour intensive.
