Opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) says the decision by President Edgar Lungu and his government to charter a private jet at a colossal sum of 300 000 US Dollars to go to New York is a demonstration that the leaders in the country do not care about the sufferings of the people.

FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says instead of cutting down on unnecessary public expenditure to save and invest in needy areas, the leaders have the audacity to wax themselves in opulence… and extravagance, hiring private jets at astronomical costs.

Mr. Mwanza says it is sad to learn that even party functionaries such as pf deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri are in New York at government expense.

He points out that the country has serious fiscal challenges among them the downgrading of the credit ratings from stable to negative, the power shortages, the laying off of workers, the devaluation of the kwacha among others.

Mr. Mwanza says instead of reducing on unnecessary public expenditure, the leaders have continued to swim in luxury while the people of Zambia have been subjected to a high cost of living.

He further states that there is need to be prudent in the use of resources in order to save, invest and reduce the fiscal deficit.
