NCC optimistic construction sector will grow next year

The National Council for Construction (NCC) is optimist the construction sector is bound to grow next year owing to the measures President Edgar Lungu availed in his recent speech to Parliament.

NCC Executive Director Charles Mushota says his counsel is inspired that in his speech President Lungu took note that the skills gap in the construction sector is an issue that presently needs to be addressed.

Mr. Mushota says his council therefore found it a timely call President Lungu’s directive for all trade schools to revert back to their original objectives of training youths in various skills.

He has told Qfm News that the NCC to this effect will work with trade schools in rolling out courses it has been offering with the view of addressing the skills gap in the construction sector.

Mr. Mushota says his council is also pleased that President Lungu has encouraged the formation of cooperatives in the Country.

He says the NCC envisages that if local contractors begin to form cooperatives they will attain capacities to undertake projects that are presently being awarded to foreign contractors.

Mr. Mushota notes that this in turn will address the issue of capital flight in the sector as money that is spent in the sector will now start circulating within the country.

He says his Council also anticipates increased concentration on public works from the splitting of the Ministry of Works, Supply and Communication to form two Ministries by President Lungu.
